Target Groping Suspect Sought – Jennifer Redding Provides Insight On WBAL Channel 11 News

Our very own, Jennifer Redding, Deputy Chief of Behavioral Health Services, was featured during a news broadcast by WBAL channel 11.  She provided valuable advice for those who are victims of assault.  Below is a copy of the article on the WBAL website:

Aberdeen police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man who they said groped a female employee Monday at a Target.

City police said officers were called at 10:15 a.m. Monday to the store on Middleton Road for a report of a man who approached an employee, asked for her help with scanning merchandise.

“A lot of times it’s about power and control and wanting to dominate another person and kind of impinge upon their space,” said Jennifer Redding, of Family and Children Services in Bel Air.

Redding helps people overcome traumatic experiences.

“Encouraging folks to say no and to speak out and to advocate for themselves is absolutely vital,” Redding said.

Police said the man was last seen wearing a black coat, gray pants and black shoes.

Detectives investigating the incident learned of a similar, unreported groping of a female employee at the store two weeks ago. The description of the suspect in that incident was similar to the description from the most recent incident.

“So many of the clients we serve oftentimes are not believed, and so I think for many women in the community it’s really hard to raise your hand and say, ‘This happened to me and it wasn’t right,'” Redding said.

A spokesperson from Target issued a statement, saying, “We have no tolerance for this type of behavior in Target stores. Immediately when we were notified, law enforcement was engaged and we’ve shared footage and information for their investigation. We’ve also provided resources to our team members to help keep them safe at work.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Aberdeen police Sgt. Tomlinson at 410-272-2121.
